NICON webinar: Primary Care | Shaping our framework for the future

The Health and Social Care Reset Plan for Northern Ireland sets out an ambitious direction of travel built around four key shifts: Hospital to Home, Treatment to Prevention, Analog to Digital, and People to Partners. The NI Primary Care Network is committed to making sure primary care is right at the heart of this reset - helping to shape, lead, and deliver change.

In this webinar, we will explore what reset means for primary care as part of the wider system, as well as the role primary care can play in shaping the future of health and social care in NI

Gearoid Cassidy, Director of Primary Care, Department of Health (DOH) will outline the current policy context, including early progress towards implementing the neighbourhood model.

We will also hear from Siobhan McEntee, who leads the NI Primary Care Network and has more than 30 years’ experience as a GP. She will give an overview of the role and ambition of the network and explain the key themes that emerged from a recent general practice visioning day. Siobhán will then call on a few key partners to share practical examples and case studies demonstrating what’s already starting to take shape—particularly around moving care closer to home.

Additionally, we are delighted to be joined by Ruth Rankine, Director of Primary & Community Care and Neighbourhood Health at The NHS Alliance, who will draw comparisons with emerging work in England.

After these inputs, we will prioritise time for questions and discussion as we consider how we collectively ensure we are on the road to reset.

This webinar is the fifth event in our ‘Reset’ discussion series, which will run throughout 2026. The series will bring together HSC leaders, partners, and expert speakers to consider the key elements of the Reset Plan for health and social care in NI.
