This report highlights some of our key areas of impact in our continued support for members in tackling inequalities.
Health inequalities

Workforce
The NHS Confederation Tackling Inequalities Programme supports our members to transform their organisations and improve patient care through tackling inequalities in both workforce and service delivery.
The programme of support for leaders complements national, regional and local strategies on equality, diversity and inclusion (EDI) and health inequalities by offering practical guidance, insightful resources and opportunities to connect.
We support NHS organisations in promoting diverse recruitment, valuing lived experience and developing their workforces to build an inclusive leadership pipeline for the future, and believe that by doing so, the NHS will transform and improve care for all.
How we work
Our aims are applied through three practical, evidence-based approaches:
- Equity: Empowering members to lead through community and workforce engagement by collaborating with communities and sharing best practices through examples.
- Leadership: Supporting members to build a diverse and accountable leadership by offering evidence-based resources and tools.
- Accountability: Ensuring system and service leaders understand their personal accountability for delivering effective EDI by developing and supporting EDI practitioners.
