Overview

Step into executive leadership with clarity, confidence, and impact

This induction course is designed for new executive directors in the NHS. Delivered in partnership with NHS England, it offers a comprehensive introduction to the role, responsibilities, and expectations of executive directors in today's NHS.

With expert insights and peer discussion, the course equips participants with the confidence, leadership behaviours and essential governance knowledge to contribute meaningfully at board level.

Key takeaways
  1. Gain a clear understanding of the executive director role on an NHS unitary board, including the legal, regulatory, and governance responsibilities of board members.
  2. Explore the board's role in being a well-led organisation.
  3. Build connections with other executive directors and peers from across the NHS.
  4. Consider you intention and impact in an executive leadership position.
  5. Enhance your confidence to contribute to strategic decision-making and effective board leadership.

Why this matters

Executive directors have to balance leading their portfolio areas, collaborating with system partners and effectively undertaking their strategic corporate director role as part of a unitary board. This induction ensures new executives are fully prepared to undertake strong executive leadership from the outset, with the clarity, understanding and confidence to navigates the complex challenges that being a board member may bring.

This is a must attend event for any new Executive. There has been so much richness in the areas covered but it has also given me the time to step out, reflect and really think about the role and how I operate within this.
